OHIO STATE CAPS HIGHLY REGARDED 2018 RECRUITING CLASS
  
The 2018 class of recruits that coach Urban Meyer and his Ohio State football program have secured will be among the best classes in the nation. The class includes five more players who signed national letters of intent with the Buckeyes on Wednesday and, including the 21 who signed with Ohio State in December, gives the Buckeyes a 26-member class.
 
 
BUCKEYES BREAK EVEN AT ST. JOHN’S INVITATIONAL
  
After a day of competition at St. John’s Invitational duals, the Ohio State Fencing team came away with an even record at 5-5. The Buckeyes faced four of the top ten teams in the nation and highlighted the effort with a 14-13 upset from the men’s unit over defending national champion Columbia.

The Buckeyes finished with a 21-15 overall record, while the Illini improved to 30-4 on the season.

John Simon Headlines All-Big Ten Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior defensive lineman John Simon was named to the 2011 All-Big Ten First Team Monday by the coaches.
Simon led the Buckeyes with seven sacks and 15 tackles for loss, figures that ranked tied for second and sixth, respectively, in the Big Ten. The Youngstown, Ohio, native and 2010 honorable mention All-Big Ten selection recorded 50 tackles and broke up three passes while starting all 12 contests. In addition, Simon was named a semifinalist for the annual Lott IMPACT Trophy.
   
   
The Ohio State University Selects Urban Meyer as Head Football Coach

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team will play host to a dual meet with Ohio University at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Ohio State women enter Saturday with a 4-0 dual meet record. Last Friday, the Buckeyes defeated Virginia Tech (198.0-100), Cleveland State (232.0-66.0) and Denison (234.0-64.0) in a quad meet.  The team of Kelsey Moran, Angela Severn, Shannon Draves and Megan Detro opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay in 1:41.38, while sophomore Kelly Ann Baird outlasted Virginia Tech’s Erika Hajnal to claim the 1000 freestyle in 9:55.91. Another sophomore, Alex Norris, recorded a victory in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:50.49 and the 200 individual medley in 2:05.33.

Against Ohio State - Big Ten royalty even in a year when the Buckeyes have more NCAA player suspensions than wins - everything seemed set.

Daniel Herron and the Buckeye defense had other ideas.

No. 25 Michigan State Edges Ohio State, 10-7, in Big Ten Opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio - No. 25 Michigan State withstood a late rally from the Buckeyes to escape Ohio Stadium with a 10-7 win Saturday in the conference opener for both teams.
A Big Ten defensive battle was witnessed by 105,306 fans at Ohio Stadium as the Spartans (4-1, 1-0 Big Ten) and their aggressive, blitzing defense limited the Buckeye offense to 178 total yards and sacked the OSU quarterbacks nine times on the day. Ohio State (3-2, 0-1 Big Ten) countered with an inspired defensive performance of its own, forcing three Spartan turnovers while repeatedly rising to the occasion with their backs to the wall.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 23rd-ranked Ohio State men’s golf team finished the Inverness Intercollegiate in 11th-place Tuesday after 18-holes of play. The Scarlet and Gray recorded a 21-over 305 at the prominent par-71, 7,255-yard Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio State men's soccer team begins a three-game stretch vs. 2010 NCAA College Cup teams at 7 p.m. Wednesday vs. national runner-up and current seventh-ranked Louisville in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Buckeyes (4-2-1) then welcome Michigan, a NCAA semifinalist last year, to their home field at 4 p.m. Sunday in nationally-televised match on BTN before traveling to defending national champion No. 4 Akron next Wednesday. Admission to the Louisville and Michigan games, as well as all Buckeye home regular-season games, is free.

MIAMI - Ohio State dropped its first-ever regular season game in the state of Florida Saturday to unranked Miami, 24-6. The Hurricanes powered for two quick first-quarter touchdowns to build a 14-0 lead and held firm the rest of the way as Ohio State managed just a 4-for-18 day passing for 35 yards with one interception.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State tight end Jake Stoneburner was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week by the Nassau County Sports Commission today. The junior had four receptions for 50 yards and three receiving touchdowns in the Buckeyes’ 42-0 win over Akron Saturday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In a midweek game, the Ohio State field hockey team lost, 2-1, against Ohio Wednesday afternoon at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Buckeyes (0-3) came back to tie the game, 1-1, in the second half but the Bobcats (3-0) were able to tally a goal in the final minutes of the game to claim the victory.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The 22nd ranked Ohio State women’s volleyball team travels to Honolulu, Hawaii, for the second of three consecutive road trips. The Buckeyes will play in the Hawaiian Airline Wahine Volleyball Classic, facing three nationally ranked teams. OSU plays host and 10th-ranked Hawaii (3-0) Thursday at 7 p.m. HT, 12th-ranked UCLA (3-0) Friday at 5 p.m. HT and 23rd-ranked Long Beach State (2-1) Sunday at 3 p.m. HT.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (4-0 overall) women’s volleyball team finished play in the West Virginia Mountaineer Invitational with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-20) victory over the host Mountaineers (1-2) to capture the title. Buckeye Mari Hole posted a career-high 20 points with a career-high 19 kills (.486) and one ace serve. Emily Danks added 12.5 points with 10 kills (.250) and five assist blocks.

Columbus, Ohio – The eighth-ranked Ohio State women’s soccer team shut out visiting Xavier 1-0 in season-opening action at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium Friday evening.

“Number one, we got a shutout; number two, we got a win; number three, we created a ton of mismatches on the field,” said Ohio State coach Lori Walker, talking about the victory. “We certainly had enough opportunities in the box; we just didn’t take advantage of most of them."
 
 

Buckeyes Open Fall Camp 103 Strong

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 122nd season of Ohio State football kicked off at the Harmon Family Football Park at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center with 103 players taking the field for new coach Luke Fickell.
 
Fickell, the Columbus native and Ohio State graduate, is the 23rd head coach in school history and only the fifth head coach in the last 60 years. He stepped onto the outdoor practice fields for the first time as Ohio State head coach at 9:17 a.m.

Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2011 Announced

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame will grow by 11 members this year, as six men and five women will be inducted the weekend of Sept. 9 and 10 the Men's Varsity O Alumni Association and the Women's Varsity O Alumnae Society announced Wednesday. The class will be officially inducted Sept. 9 during a ceremonial dinner and introduced to the public at halftime of the Ohio State home football game against Toledo Sept. 10.
 
The 2011 class includes: Didi Albrecht (rowing), Raj Bhavsar (men’s gymnastics), Mitch Clark (wrestling), Katy Craig (women’s track and field), Mike Doss (football), Jessica Marshall (pistol), Orlando Pace (football), Leo Raskowski (football), Stacey Roth (softball), Bobby Watkins (football) and Kristen White (women’s golf).

 

Chris Jent Added to Men's Basketball Staff 

   

 COLUMBUS, Ohio - Chris Jent is returning to his alma mater as an assistant men’s basketball coach, Thad Matta, head coach of the Buckeyes, announced Wednesday. Jent fills the spot previously held by Brandon Miller, who recently resigned to spend more time with his family.
