State student-athletes from 12 different sports spent the afternoon
Sunday, Sept. 25 at the New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix and
Family Day.
Held at the home of Leslie H. Wexner, chair of the
Ohio State Board of Trustees, the day kicked off with the Tween Brands
Concert at The Classic. Patrons also had the opportunity to take part
in carnival games and rides, face and hair painting, a petting zoo, dog
agility demonstrations and other hands-on activities.
Throughout
the day, Ohio State student-athletes manned the Classic Sports
Spectacular area. Featuring athletes from the men’s lacrosse, men’s
volleyball, football, fencing, women’s gymnastics, men’s and women’s
hockey, men’s and women’s tennis, wrestling, synchronized swimming and
rifle teams, children and their parents were able to meet the
student-athletes and learn more about their respective sports.
"It
was great to spend time with people in the community and see the kid's
eyes light up when they were told we were from Ohio State," sophomore
synchronized swimmer Colleen Courtmanche said.
The one-day
event, which gives 100 percent of the proceeds to the Columbus
Coalition Against Family Violence, was capped by a grand prix that
featured 30 of the world’s best equestrian riders.
