Ohio State Picks Up 9-2 Win at Miami

Greg Greve allows one earned run over six innings to pick up the win

   

OXFORD, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team topped Miami (Ohio), 9-2, Wednesday evening at McKie Field. With the win, Ohio State improves to 15-12 on the season while the RedHawks fall to 15-13.
 
The Buckeyes took a 1-0 lead in the second when Patrick Porter singled up the middle to lead off the inning, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout by David Corna and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Mike Carroll.
 
Ohio State then tallied four runs on four hits in the top of the third. The Buckeyes loaded the bases with one down before Porter plated Ryan Cypret with an RBI groundout.  Corna then scored two with a double down the left field line. Mike Carroll pushed the lead to 5-0 with an RBI single to score Corna.
 
Ohio State tacked on one more in the top of the fourth when Cypret walked with one down and came around to score on a wild pitch and added another in the top of the fifth when Pellant walked with one down and scored on a two-out RBI single by Cypret to extend the lead to 7-0.
 
The Buckeyes tallied two more on four consecutive two-out singles by Corna, Carroll, Aaron Gretz and Pellant to extend the lead to 9-0 in the top of the sixth before the RedHawks got on the board with an RBI triple by Bryce Redeker in the bottom of the frame to make it 9-1.
 
Miami added another in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to 9-2 but could not muster anything else as Dezse closed it out in the ninth.
 
Greve picked up the win to move to 2-2 on the season, allowing one earned on four hits while striking out a pair over six innings. Hallberg, Corna, Carroll and Gretz each had two hits for the Buckeyes.
 
The Buckeyes host Minnesota in a three-game set starting Friday to open a 10-game homestand at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
 
GAME NOTES
- The Buckeyes have averaged 11 runs in their three Wednesday contests this season.
- Ohio State was not retired in order once in the game.
- All nine Buckeye starters recorded a hit.
- Hallberg recorded his team-high 10th multi-hit game of the season.
- With a pair of stolen bases Wednesday, the Buckeyes are now 48 of 55 in stolen bases this season.
