Both join head coach Nate Handrahan after serving at Robert Morris
COLUMBUS,
Ohio – Ohio State women’s hockey coach Nate Handrahan has announced the
addition of Scott Spencer and Candice Moxley to his staff. “I
am very excited to have both Scott and Candice here at Ohio State,”
Handrahan said. “Each of them bring different strengths that will aid
in the continued development of this program. They are very smart
hockey minds and know what it takes to win. Scott has been a determined
recruiter in the past and Candice has been great with player
management. I expect them to do very well here.”
Spencer
comes to Ohio State after serving five years at Robert Morris. In his
final season with the Colonials, he acted as associate head coach of
the program and specialized in recruiting and goaltending. Prior to his
time at Robert Morris, Spencer was an assistant at Bemidji State
University from 2003-06 where he took on the role of assistant coach
with the men’s program and oversaw the strength and conditioning of the
women’s program. While with the Beavers, he helped guide the men’s
program to two regular season conference titles, two conference
tournament crowns and two appearances in the round of 16 in the NCAA
tournament.
“I'm extremely excited for the
opportunity that Nate and The Ohio State University have given me to be
a part of this great program and institution," Spencer said. “I'm
looking forward to helping this program move forward and become a
national contender."
In 2005-06, Spencer played a role
in forming the Junior A squad North Iowa Outlaws of the North American
Hockey League and held many responsibilities during his season with the
Outlaws. He served as an assistant coach and worked with the defensemen
and goaltenders, while also taking charge in recruiting, overseeing the
strength and conditioning and acting as an academic advisor.

named captain for the 2001-02 season and received honorable mention
honors at the conclusion of the 2002 ACHA tournament.
Moxley
joins the Buckeye staff after two seasons as an assistant coach at
Robert Morris where she was responsible for game strategy planning,
video review, practice planning and opponent scouting.
“I
am very excited to have been given the opportunity to be a Buckeye,”
Moxley said. “Ohio State has a rich environment that can provide a lot
of opportunities for the players and I am happy to be a part of this
and to help move the program in a positive direction.”
Prior to
her stint at Robert Morris, Moxley was the head on-ice Instructor for
Canadian Hockey Enterprises from 2002-2008. There, she was in charge of
implementing on-ice practice plans for a variety of ages and skill
levels. Moxley also worked at the Stephanie Boyd’s Female Hockey School
where she developed practices targeted towards specific skills. From
2006-07, she served as an on-ice trainer and coach for Goulding Park
Midget Boys AA Hockey where she was responsible for implementing
pre-season conditioning and individual skills practices.
From
2005-07, Moxley acted as the assistant for the Markham District High
School’s women’s varsity team. Before that, she worked at the New Ice
