Ohio State Department of Athletics Set to Celebrate 100 Years, Membership in Big Ten Conference
Centennial Celebration will begin May 3 at kickoff event in Schottenstein Center
COLUMBUS,
Ohio – The Ohio State Department of Athletics will celebrate its 100th
year as a department and a member of the Big Ten Conference during the
2012-13 season. As part of the Centennial Celebration launch, the
department will host the Centennial Celebration Kickoff May 3 in the
Schottenstein Center to honor former student-athletes, coaches and
administrators.
Buckeye legends from many of Ohio
State’s 36 varsity sports will be featured at the Centennial
Celebration Kickoff, including Archie Griffin (football), Cathy
(Kraztzert) Gerring (women's golf), Chuck Csuri (football), Laura Davis
Johnson (women's volleyball), Linda Lichter-Witter (synchronized
swimming), Susan Gottlieb-Korthals (women's swimming), Tommy Rowlands
(wrestling), Stephanie Hightower (women's track and field), Ray Shoup
(baseball), Paul Hartman (men's lacrosse, soccer, gymnastics) and
Steven Kehoe (men's volleyball). For more information on the Centennial

The festivities will
continue May 5 during the home baseball game vs. Northwestern at 3:05
p.m. at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. Later that evening,
fans can attend the softball doubleheader vs. Iowa at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
at Buckeye Field. Several baseball and softball alumni will be in
attendance at either competition.
Between 2-3:30
p.m., fans can enjoy the 100-Year Fan Fest/Buckeye Mobile Tour located
between Buckeye Field and Bill Davis Stadium. The mobile tour will
feature face painting, inflatable games, register to wins, The Ohio
State University Marching Band and cheerleaders and Brutus in addition
to more fun activities.
Throughout the 2012-13
season, Ohio State teams will host a Centennial Game, which will pay
homage to department of athletics, team, student-athlete, coaching and
administrator milestones during the past 100 years. As part of the
celebration, Buckeye teams will don the official Centennial Celebration
logo on their uniforms or gear. Additionally, the logo will be
displayed prominently on playing surfaces or walls at various venues,
including the field turf at Ohio Stadium and outfield wall at Bill
Davis Stadium.
