Jenn Sciulli scores first goal of season
COLUMBUS,
Ohio – In a midweek game, the Ohio State field hockey team lost, 2-1,
against Ohio Wednesday afternoon at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Buckeyes
(0-3) came back to tie the game, 1-1, in the second half but the
Bobcats (3-0) were able to tally a goal in the final minutes of the
game to claim the victory.
Senior tri-captain Jenn Sciulli
scored the goal for the Buckeyes, marking the sixth of her OSU career,
while sophomore Paula Pastor-Pitarque collected her first point on the
season with the assist.
After the first 33 minutes went
scoreless, the Bobcats struck first at 33:41 when sophomore Katherine
Fenzel scored from the left side of the cage with the assist from
sophomore Jessica Jue. The Buckeyes collected one penalty corner in the
first half, but had nothing to show for after shot by Queralt was
called off following the sound of the whistle.
In the second
half, the Scarlet and Gray found the momentum they were looking for
following a penalty corner to even the score, 1-1.
Sciulli,
a native of Palmyra, Pa., punched in a goal from the left side at 46:20
after Pastor-Pitarque worked her way into the middle of the circle with
some nice crossovers and found the Buckeye captain open in front of the
cage.
With both teams battling, it all came down to the last
minutes of the game. Following an Ohio penalty corner, the Bobcats took
advantage of their opportunity after Taylor Brown knocked in the
gamewinner at 64:37. The assist was credited to Louzeth Schutte.
The
Buckeyes will now prepare to travel to Harrisonburg, Va., for two road
games this weekend. The Buckeyes will play a neutral-site game at 2
p.m. Saturday vs. Richmond before facing James Madison at 2 p.m. Sunday.
