Gophers Set Pool Records, Win in Denver
 
The Golden Gophers set several pool records as they secured dual meet victories against Denver and Wyoming at El Pomar Natatorium. The Gopher men beat host Denver 193-122, and beat Wyoming 219.5-95.5. Minnesota’s women captured a 179-136 win against the Pioneers and a 225-90 win against the Cowgirls.

Park Ridge, Ill. – Megan Ryan from the University of Minnesota has been named this year’s recipient of the Big Ten Conference William R. Reed Memorial Award. The award is named in honor of former Big Ten Commissioner William R. Reed who served the conference for more than 20 years.
   
   
Malik Smith Signs Tender to Play at Minnesota
 
The Minnesota men’s basketball program announced today that Malik Smith has signed a tender to play for the Gophers. Smith will be eligible immediately pending an NCAA waiver based on a possible APR induced post-season ban at Florida International University, his previous school.
 
   
Minnesota Tops Ohio State in Big Ten Home Opener
Three Gophers scored in double-figures in the win.
  
The University of Minnesota (13-4, 2-1 B1G) women's basketball team got double-figure scoring from Rachel Banham, Micaëlla Riché and Kionna Kellogg to earn an 83-74 victory vs. Ohio State (10-6, 0-3 B1G) in its Big Ten home opener Thursday night at Williams Arena.
   
   
Minnesota Drops Big Ten Opener at Michigan State
 
Despite getting 21 points from Rachel Banham, the University of Minnesota (11-4, 0-1 B1G) women’s basketball team dropped its Big Ten Conference opener at Michigan State (13-1, 1-0 B1G), 66-51, Thursday evening at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -  Rodney Williams scored a season-high 19 points, including a 360-degree dunk off a fast break, and Trevor Mbakwe grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds to lead 13th-ranked Minnesota past North Dakota State 70-57
 
 
Gophers and FSU to Appear on ESPN2 in Big Ten/ACC Battle
 
The University of Minnesota men's basketball team's Big Ten/ACC Challenge tilt against Florida State on Nov. 27 will tip at 6:15 p.m. CST, the Big Ten Conference announced today. The game, to be played in Tallahassee, will be broadcast live by ESPN2.
   
     
Buford Signs Professional Basketball Contract to Play in Poland
 
Just over three months after the conclusion of her collegiate career, former Minnesota standout Kiara Buford signed a professional contract to play basketball for Matizol Lider Pruszkow in Poland. Buford will travel to Poland in mid-August, where she will be joined on the club by former Texas A&M standout Tyra White.
   
   
Minnesota Women’s Basketball Wins WBI Championship

Minnesota Basketball Game Notes

This marks the first meeting between Fairfield University and the University of Minnesota. The Stags
have played eight games against Big Ten opponents, including Wisconsin (0-1), Penn State (0-1), Northwestern (1-0), Michigan (0-3), Indiana (0-1), and Illinois (0-1). The Illinois game came in the 1985-86 NCAA tournament, while the Stags were the first NCAA tournament opponent for Indiana in their 1986-87 NCAA championship season

Gopher head coach Pam Borton announced Wednesday that a trio of local prep standouts have signed National Letters of Intent to play women's basketball next season at the University of Minnesota.
 
Mikayla Bailey of Osseo, Minn. (Osseo HS), Jackie Johnson of Eden Prairie (Eden Prairie HS) and Shayne Mullaney of Eden Prairie, Minn. (Eden Prairie HS) will join Minnesota's program as freshmen for the 2012-13 season.

Hoops Season to Get Underway at “Gopher All-Star Friday Night” 

A new twist on an old tale. The University of Minnesota men’s basketball program will officially begin the season by hosting “Gopher All-Star Friday Night” on Oct. 14 at Williams Arena. The event, formally known as “Midnight Madness” and “Tubby’s Tip-off”, will feature the 2011-12 Gopher roster as well as many former Minnesota Basketball alumni.

Minnesota Falls to North Dakota State, 37-24

Marcus Williams had two defensive touchdowns for North Dakota State on Saturday to help the Bison pull off the upset of Minnesota, 37-24.
Williams, a sophomore cornerback who played at Hopkins High School in the Twin Cities - one of the dozens of Minnesotans on NDSU's roster - returned an interception of Max Shortell's late heave 40 yards for a touchdown to seal the game.
     
     
Minnesota 29-23 victory over Miami (Ohio)
   
Coach Jerry Kill returned to the Minnesota sideline one week after suffering a seizure during a game and watched Marqueis Gray rack up 334 total yards in a 29-23 victory over Miami (Ohio).
Gray threw for 163 yards and rushed for 171 more and Duane Bennett blocked a punt and returned it for a TD to hand Kill his first victory as coach of the Golden Gophers.
 
   
Kill Released from Hospital
 
University of Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill was discharged from the hospital today and is now resting at home, according to Gopher football team physician Dr. Pat Smith. Dr. Smith said that Kill was released during the lunch hour Thursday.

Kill Continues to Rest, Improve Following Seizure
 
University of Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill continued to show signs of improvement Sunday morning and is resting comfortably at a local hospital after suffering a seizure late in the Golden Gophers’ home opener at TCF Bank Stadium.
     
     
GOPHERS SET TO MAKE FIRST HOME APPEARANCE VS. NMSU
   
The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers will play their first home game of the 2011 campaign Saturday
at TCF Bank Stadium. Minnesota host New Mexico State University in the first-ever meeting between the

Minnesota fell to USC, 19-17
 
Los Angeles, Calif.) -- Second half touchdowns from Duane Bennett and Brandon Green pulled Minnesota within two points late in the fourth quarter. But the Gophers couldn’t complete the rally to give first-year head coach Jerry Kill a victory over 25th-ranked Southern California in his first game at the helm as  Minnesota fell to USC, 19-17.

  

Coach Kill Announces Roster Changes

University of Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill announced the signing of two student-athletes to Big Ten scholarship tenders Friday. Kill also announced the departure of two student-athletes from the Gopher football program.
 
Wide receiver Malcolm Moulton (Lawrenceville, Ga.), a transfer from Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College, has signed with the Gophers. Also signing to play for Minnesota is quarterback Dexter Foreman of Manvel (Texas) High School. Both Moulton and Foreman are slated to be with the team for fall camp in August.
