Alicia Herron Named Big Ten Player of the Week
Buckeye senior claims third career weekly laurel
LOUISVILLE,
Ky. – Alicia Herron was named Big Ten Player of the Week Monday
after leading the Ohio State softball team to a 3-0 mark at the TSU
Classic over the weekend in Nashville, Tenn. The wins at the TSU
tournament improved Ohio State’s record to 14-8 overall.
The
Cypress, Calif., native batted .500, drove in eight runs, scored five
more and stole two bases in the three games. She finished the week with
an OPS of 1.917 after hitting two home runs and two singles, while also
drawing two walks.
Against Belmont March 17,
Herron launched two home runs and posted five RBI, one of two multi-RBI
games of the week en route to earning All-Tournament honors. The
Buckeye captain is now second on the OSU all-time career home runs list
with 43 home runs, passing former Buckeye Kristine Himes (2000-03).
This is the third accolade for Herron in her career and the first for Ohio State this season.
The Buckeyes are at Louisville today for a doubleheader, beginning at 3 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium.
