After a back-and-fourth first quarter, a 19-6 burst to end the second quarter propelled the Penn State’s women’s basketball team to a Big Ten victory over Michigan State on Sunday Feb. 4 at the Bryce Jordan Center.
 
 
Penn State Women’s Basketball Drops Decision at Indiana, 72-66
 
The score sheet was not indicative of the outcome in the Penn State women’s basketball team’s 72-66 setback at Indiana on Monday (Jan. 23) evening.  UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.-The #9/9 Penn State Lady Lions (11-2, 1-0 Big Ten) used a late rally to fend off the Northwestern Wildcats (8-6, 0-1) in their Big Ten opener by a score of 73-69 on Thursday night at the Bryce Jordan Center. The Wildcats held a six-point advantage with 4:47 remaining in the contest, but Penn State closed the game on 17-9 run to seal the comeback victory.

 

 

Lady Lions Down South Dakota State, 60-50
 
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. – The #11/10 Penn State Lady Lions (9-2) earned a 60-50 victory over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits (6-5) on Sunday at the Bryce Jordan Center. After entering the half tied at 25, the Lady Lions outscored South Dakota State 35-25 in the second half to secure the win.

 

 

Penn State will visit France and Italy during 10-day trip
 
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA– The defending Big Ten regular-season champion Penn State Lady Lions will begin their 2012-13 season with a 10-day foreign tour to France and Italy August 13-23. The Lady Lions will visit five cities in the two countries, while playing three games.

Junior Bryan Welnetz (Laredo, Texas) picked up a singles victory in the No. 5 slot to secure the Nittany Lions first point of the match.

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.— The No. 22/21 Penn State Lady Lions (15-4, 5-2) used a 20-2 run over the final 6:32 to erase a two-point deficit and claim a 68-52 victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes (11-9, 3-4) Sunday afternoon in front of 4,714 fans at the Bryce Jordan Center. Sophomore forward Ariel Edwards (Elmont, N.Y.) posted her first career double-double with a personal bests of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Edwards was 4-for-8 from the field and 9-for-10 from the free throw line in the best performance of her career.

LUBBOCK, TEXAS— The #16/15 Penn State Lady Lions (6-2, 0-0 Big Ten) struggled from the field in the second half, shooting just 25% (8-32), as #19/25 Texas Tech (7-0) used the energy from the 8,923 fans in attendance to claim a 70-66 win over the Lady Lions Saturday in the Big 12/Big Ten Challenge. The Lady Lions closed within one point late, but a three-pointer by Jordan Barncastle as the shot clock expired sealed the four-point win for the Lady Raiders. COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Stephfon Green ran for two touchdowns and the Nittany Lions held Ohio State scoreless in the second half of a 20-14 victory.

It is the highest ranking in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll for the Lady Lion since they were seventh in the final 2004 poll. Additionally, it is Penn State’s first appearance in the preseason coaches’ poll since starting the 2003-04 campaign eighth.

True to form, Joe Paterno wasn't ready to wax nostalgic.

Even so, taking a spot alongside Eddie Robinson was special, and the next time Penn State wins, JoePa will be all alone atop the Division I wins list.

Already the leader among major college coaches, Paterno tied Robinson with his 408th career victory Saturday night as Penn State beat Northwestern 34-24.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Running back Silas Redd (Norwalk, Conn.) collected his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the season and the Nittany Lion defense generated a season-high three interceptions, as No. 25 Penn State downed Purdue, 23-18, at Beaver Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions improved to 6-1 overall (3-0 Big Ten) with their Homecoming win.

Houston, Texas – The Penn State women’s tennis team continued play in the Rice Invitational today.  The Nittany Lions sent six individual competitors and three doubles pairings to the tournament.

Gelfand Named Lady Lion Director of Basketball Operations

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA; — Ethan Gelfand has been selected as the director of basketball operations for the Penn State Lady Lion basketball team, it was announced by head coach Coquese Washington today. Gelfand, who will take his post on July 5, comes to Penn State after five seasons at Central Michigan in the similar role.

“I am thrilled to have Ethan join our staff,” Washington said. “His experiences at both Central Michigan and Wake Forest will prove to be invaluable to our program as we continue our climb to national prominence.”
