Buckeyes Sweep Syracuse with 4-3 Win
Senior Laura McIntosh scores twice for Ohio State
COLUMBUS,
Ohio – Senior captain Laura McIntosh scored back-to-back goals in the
first period and led the Ohio State women’s hockey team to a 4-3
victory over Syracuse Saturday at the Tennity Ice Pavilion in Syracuse,
N.Y. The Buckeyes (7-4-1) picked up their third series sweep of the
season with the win.
Ohio State outshot Syracuse
(5-9-0), 39-22, and held a 30-27 advantage in faceoffs. Redshirt
sophomore Chelsea Knapp earned her fifth start in the net and finished
with 19 saves to improve to 2-2-1 on the season. Syracuse goalie
Jenesica Drinkwater had 35 saves and fell to 2-4-0.
The
Orange put a goal on the board first at 12:11 in the opening period.
Allie LaCombe scored for Syracuse with assists to Casey Hirsch and
Jordyn Burns. The Buckeyes responded three minutes later when McIntosh
tallied her fifth goal of the season at 15:21. Fellow seniors Natalie
Spooner and Kelly Wild earned the assist.
McIntosh
struck again barely a minute later and put the Buckeyes up 2-1 at 16:31
with the assist going to sophomore Madison Marcotte. Ohio State went
into the first intermission with a one-goal lead.
Syracuse
locked the score at two apiece at 5:55 in the second on a Julie Knerr
goal. Ohio State, however, notched another score at 12:24 when junior
Hokey Langan capitalized on a pass from freshman Sara Schmitt to take a
3-2 lead.
Sophomore Ally Tarr gave Ohio State a
two-goal advantage at 10:18 in the third with an unassisted goal. The
Orange pulled their goalie in the final minutes and took advantage of
the extra player as Margot Scharfe scored the final goal of the game at
18:53.
The Buckeyes return to the OSU Ice Rink for
a WCHA series against Minnesota Duluth, Nov. 25-26. Games begin at 7:07
p.m. and 4:07 p.m., respectively.
