Four Buckeyes To Play in 2012 Senior Bowl
Adams, Brewster, Herron and Posey accept invites to all-star game
COLUMBUS,
Ohio – The 2012 Senior Bowl, to be played Jan. 28 in Mobile, Ala., will
have a considerable Ohio State presence as four players – offensive
linemen Mike Adams and Mike Brewster, running back Dan Herron and
receiver DeVier Posey – have accepted invitations to play in the annual
event that annually features the best college seniors. “This
will mark the eleventh straight year that Ohio State University has
been represented in our game,” Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale
said. “All four of these players are deserving of this
opportunity to showcase their talents in front of the top decision
makers in the National Football League.” Brewster started
49 consecutive games at center – from the fourth game of his freshman
season on – and was a 2010 first-team All-American by the Football
Writers Association of America and Phil Steele. Adams, meanwhile, was a
first-team all-Big Ten Conference pick by both the coaches and the
media in 2010 and was an honorable mention choice as a senior. He
started 25 of the 31 games he played in as a Buckeye. Adams and
Brewster shared the team’s Jim Parker Award as the team’s outstanding
offensive lineman this past season. Herron, like Brewster,
was named a team captain for the 2011 season by a vote of his peers. He
was also named the team’s most valuable player after rushing for 675
yards and three touchdowns in seven games. He topped 100 yards in each
of his first three games – all Ohio State wins – with a high of 160 in
the win over Wisconsin. He was named honorable mention all-Big Ten.
Herron finished his career with 2,869 career rushing yards to rank 10th
all-time at Ohio State. His 33 touchdowns scored rank eighth all-time
and he also caught 44 passes. He was a 2010 first-team all-Big Ten
Conference performer after rushing for 1,155 yards and scoring 16
touchdowns.
Posey closed out his career with 136
receptions for 1,955 yards, numbers that rank sixth and eighth,
respectively, all-time among Ohio State receivers. He also scored 18
receiving touchdowns to rank seventh on the all-time list. He played in
41 games, started 29 games and had a reception in each of his final 30
games played. Six times he went over 100 yards receiving with 161 yards
in 2009 vs. Minnesota his career-high. His receptions high game was
nine vs. Purdue in 2009. Brewster (strategic
communications) and Herron (African-American studies) each graduated
this past December. Posey is on track to graduate in spring 2012 with
his degree in communications, and Adams is nearing completion
requirements for his degree in criminology. The 2012
senior bowl squads will be coached by Washington Redskins coach Mike
Shanahan and his staff (South squad) and Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie
Frazier and his staff (North squad). The game will kick off at 3 p.m.
from Ladd-Peebles Stadium and it – and the week of practices leading up
to the game – will be televised by the NFL Network.
