Buckeyes, Tigers Conclude Series with 1-1 Tie

COLUMBUS,
Ohio – The Ohio State women’s hockey team closed out 2011 against
Princeton Saturday and skated to a 1-1 tie with the Tigers at the OSU
Ice Rink. The Buckeyes stand at 9-7-4 on the season, while the Tigers
are now 6-9-3 overall.
Sophomore goalie Lisa
Steffes notched 22 saves to move to 7-5-1 on the year, while
Princeton’s Rachel Weber stopped 44 Ohio State shots. The Buckeyes
bested the Tigers in shots, 45-23, and faceoffs, 34-26.
Ohio
State nabbed the game’s first goal in the opening stanza when junior
assistant captain Paige Semenza tallied her second score of the season
at 11:21. The Pittston, Pa., product intercepted a Princeton pass in
the neutral zone and took a shot in the slot to earn an unassisted goal.
Princeton’s
Sally Butler locked the game at 1-1, scoring at 9:22 in the second
period. She picked up a rebound off her own shot to send another past
Steffes for the equalizer. Denna Laing earned an assist on the score.
The
Buckeyes had a handful of opportunities in the third and overtime
periods as they out-shot the Tigers 16-7 in the final two stanzas.
Following overtime, the teams took part in a shootout with Princeton
winning 2-0.
Ohio State returns to WCHA play when the team
travel to St. Cloud, Minn., for a two-game conference series against
St. Cloud State, Jan. 6-7. Both games will be played at the National
Hockey Center.
