Some Adjustments to Future Football Schedules

Games with North Carolina & Florida A&M added; Tennessee Games Removed

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Gene Smith, The Ohio State University Director of Athletics, announced today a number of future football schedule adjustments, including the addition of games against the University of North Carolina and Florida A&M University and the cancelling of a home-and-home series with the University of Tennessee. The scheduling news, in order of occurrence:

1.      Ohio State and Florida A&M, a Football Championship Subdivision school from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, will play on Sept. 7, 2013, at Ohio Stadium. The game will be the first between the two schools on the gridiron. Florida A&M will be paid a guaranty of $850,000.

2.      Ohio State and Atlantic Coast Conference member North Carolina have agreed to a home-and-home series. The teams will meet in Columbus on Sept. 5, 2015 and in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Sept. 23, 2017.

3.      And  because of the Big Ten Conference decision to play a nine-game conference season beginning with the 2017 season, Ohio State made the request to Tennessee to cancel the games the teams were scheduled to play in 2018 (in Columbus) and 2019 (in Knoxville). Tennessee agreed to the Ohio State request and may look at an option to play in future years.

Florida A&M, nicknamed the Rattlers and with an enrollment of 13,300, are located in Tallahassee, Fla. The Rattlers have won 32 games over the past four seasons and finished the 2011 season with a 7-4 record.

Ohio State and North Carolina will play for the fifth time when the series resumes in 2015. Ohio State has won three of the first four meetings – all in Columbus – including a 29-14 win in 1972 when Archie Griffin rushed for a then-school record 239 yards in only his second game as a Buckeye. The 2017 game will be Ohio State’s first football game at Chapel Hill.
