Northwestern Sweeps 2015 Big Ten Women's Golf Awards
 
Northwestern’s Emily Fletcher is the Big Ten Coach of the Year for the third time in five seasons, Hannah Kim is the Player and Freshman of the Year and five Wildcats earned All-Big Ten distinction, the Conference. The five All-Big Ten honors for Northwestern are a program record, eclipsing the four earned last season.
 
 
Wildcats Battle Back to Stun Badgers in OT, 86-83
 
Northwestern furiously rallied from 15 points down in the second half to force overtime with less than two seconds remaining, and eventually win the game in the extra period, 86-83. The Wildcats won their seventh consecutive contest and improved to 21-6 overall this season and 11-5 in Big Ten play. NU also remained unbeaten in overtime at 3-0.
 
 
Cats Complete Comeback to Drop Cardinal 20-19
   
Northwestern won the dual's final three bouts, including two in overtime and No. 1 heavyweight Mike McMullan sealed the match in the final dual to complete the turnaround victory for NU.
 
 
Incoming 'Cats Lead USA All-Star Team for Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic
 
Three incoming members of the Northwestern wrestling class have been selected to represent the USA All-Star Team at the 40th Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic. Bryce Brill (Mt. Carmel, Ill.), Stevan Micic (Hanover Central, Ind.) and Johnny Sebastian (Bergen Catholic, N.J,), all signed to National Letters of Intent in November by Northwestern head coach Drew Pariano, were chosen for the prestigious high school all-star meet.
 
 
No. 14 Northwestern Falls to No. 1 Penn State
 
The three-time defending NCAA champions Penn State Nittany Lions proved too much to handle for Northwestern.  No. 1 Penn State won eight of the ten individual bouts to upend No. 12 NU 39-8.
   
   
No. 13 NU Pulls Away From No. 23 Indiana 27-12
 
EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 13 Northwestern opened it’s Big Ten home schedule by defeating the No. 23 ranked Indiana Hoosiers 27-12 Saturday at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
NU won seven of the 10 bouts, including two by bonus points to improve to 6-1 and 1-1 in conference play.

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Kristin Wirtz tallied her first collegiate goal in the first half and No. 11 Northwestern added two more scores after the break in taking down Miami (Ohio) 3-0 at Lakeside Field.
   
   
Wildcats Win Conference Opener at Vandy, 15-8
 
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A 7-0 Northwestern run early in the second half allowed the top-ranked Wildcats to subdue Vanderbilt, 15-8, in their American Lacrosse Conference opener Sunday in Nashville. Senior attacker Amanda Macaluso sparked the 'Cats with career-bests of five points and three goals on the afternoon.
   
   
Precin, Herbert Ready for U.S. Olympic Team Trials 
 
EVANSTON, Ill. – Former Northwestern wrestlers Brandon Precin and Jake Herbert will compete at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials this weekend in Iowa City, Iowa, with the hopes of achieving their Olympic dreams.

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern outfielder Luke Dauch (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser) has been named the Big Ten Baseball Co-Freshman of the Week the conference office announced Monday. He shares the honor with Illinois pitcher John Kravetz.
   
   
'Cats Improve to 5-0 in Nonconference Action, Defeat NIU 24-18
NU wins six bouts, including four with bonus points
   
EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 19 Northwestern took a break from its Big Ten dual schedule Friday night at and won its eighth match of the year, defeating Northern Illinois, 24-18, at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Wildcats won six of 10 bouts, including four with bonus points, improving to a perfect 5-0 in nonconference action.
   
   
First-Period Falls Help 'Cats Edge Purdue, 21-18
Lee Munster records fastest fall of the season in 13 seconds
   
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Jason Welch and Lee Munster made quick work of their Purdue opponents Sunday and scored key bonus points for Northwestern as the ’Cats hung on for a 21-18 victory over the Boilermakers.

'Cats get two pins, three major decisions, Pierce Harger upsets No. 8 Ben Jordan
    
MADISON, Wis. – No. 15 Northwestern won eight of 10 bouts, including five with bonus points, Sunday afternoon in its 33-9 victory over Wisconsin at the UW Field House. Despite all the bonus point victories, redshirt freshman Pierce Harger won the biggest match of the day for Northwestern, upsetting No. 8 Ben Jordan 4-2 in the 165 lbs. bout.

EVANSTON, Ill – Friday night’s finale of the 49th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships was a memorable one for Northwestern as two Wildcat wrestlers won titles, two others placed and the team achieved its best finish in school history at second place.
 
   
Elite Meet to Compete at 49th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships 
 
EVANSTON, Ill. – Some of the top wrestlers in the country will be in Evanston Thursday and Friday as Northwestern hosts the 49th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships. Competition runs all day inside Welsh-Ryan Arena as more than 40 Division I, II and III teams are scheduled to compete in the annual tournament.

Wildcats scorch nets for 59 first-half points

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Behind a school-record-tying 20 3-pointers and 59 first-half points, Northwestern cruised to a 92-67 victory over Mississippi Valley State Friday night in Welsh-Ryan Arena.

The 20 makes from downtown matches the team record set on Dec. 13, 2009 against North Carolina A&T, while the team's 30 assists ranks only second all-time to the 32-assist effort against Benedictine (Ill.) on Nov. 20, 2007.
   

WIN Magazine Ranks 2012 Recruiting Class in Top 10
Second top 10 recruiting class in last three seasons for Northwestern
   
EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern has pulled in another top 10 recruiting class according to WIN Magazine. The wrestling publication recently released its annual recruiting rankings and the group of five new Wildcats is slated as the 10th best class in the country.
   
   
Crawford Tabbed Big Ten Player of the Week
Averaged 24.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in leading NU to Charleston Classic title
 
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern junior forward Drew Crawford (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) has been honored as the Big Ten Men's Basketball Player of the Week the conference office announced Monday. It is the second such honor of his career. He also earned the award Dec. 14, 2009.

Pariano Signs Five to NLIs for 2012-13 Season

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern head coach Drew Pariano announced today the signing of five current high school seniors to National Letters of Intent to wrestle for NU beginning in 2012. This year's recruiting class has multiple state titles amongst them and spans the country as Dominick Malone (Granby, Conn./Wyoming Seminary), Garrison White (Concord, N.C./Jay M. Robinson), Matt Greene (Slingerlands, N.Y./Columbia), Jason Tsirtsis (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) and Ben Sullivan (Eagle River, Alaska/Apple Valley) and are set to join the Wildcats.
 
   
Northwestern to Compete in Charleston Classic
   
Northwestern opens play at the DirecTV Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant at 2 p.m. Central time Thursday as the Wildcats square off against LSU. The contest is being televised by ESPNU.

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Winter may be on the horizon in Chicago, but the release of Northwestern's 2012 women's lacrosse schedule means the defending champion Wildcats will soon be back in action. Head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller has assembled a schedule for her 11th season at the helm that includes eight games against 2011 NCAA Tournament teams.

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Just over five months removed from capturing the 2011 NCAA Women's Lacrosse championship, head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller and her title-winning Northwestern squad received their championship rings on Saturday. The Wildcats were
recognized in front of a sold-out Ryan Field crowd of 47,330 during halftime of NU's football game against Michigan.
   
   
Solid Defense Gives 'Cats 1-0 Win in Ann Arbor 
Northwestern battles through 18 Michigan shot attempts, scores on an own goal
   
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Northwestern used a combination of solid defense and a crafty in-bounds play to defeat Michigan 1-0 Saturday night in Ann Arbor. Michigan fired off 18 shots while NU goalies Sam Hatfield (Crossfield, Alberta/W.G. Murdoch) and Anna Cassell (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) combined to save five shots and Northwestern scored on an own goal for the 1-0 victory.
   
   
Purdue Edges Northwestern 2-1 in 'Cats Big Ten Home Opener
Jill Dunn registers her second goal of the season
   
EVANSTON, Ill. – Senior Jill Dunn (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) scored her second goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1 in the second half but Purdue notched a goal in the 59th minute to secure the 2-1 victory at Lakeside Field. After playing their first three Big Ten games on the road, tonight’s game was the first conference match for Northwestern at Lakeside Field this season.
   
     
Northwestern Sets 2011-12 Men's Basketball Schedule
 
NU is set to have three nonconference games televised by Big Ten Network beginning with the Nov. 13 season- and home-opener against Texas-Pan American. The two other games prior to the start of conference play that are being broadcast on BTN are the Dec. 4 contest against Baylor and the Dec. 18 matchup with Eastern Illinois.
   
   
WILDCATS FALL TO FLYERS IN OVERTIME, 2-1
   

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Emily Langston (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) scored her second goal in as many games Sunday, but Northwestern gave up a goal 1:42 into overtime and fell to Dayton, 2-1, in the final game of the 2011 Lakeside Classic.

Langston’s goal came in the 38th minute off a throw-in by sophomore Nicole Jewell (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road). Jewell launched her throw into the box, where it
bounced through traffic and allowed Langston to get a head on it. Her initial header was deflected by Dayton goalkeeper Katherine Boone, but Langston followed her shot and drove it into the back of the net. 

  

Northwestern's Shannon Smith Tabbed Suzy Favor Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year

CHICAGO -- Already the national player of the year in NCAA women's lacrosse, Northwestern junior Shannon Smith (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) on Monday was recognized as the year's most outstanding performer in all of Big Ten women's athletics, winning the 2011 Suzy Favor Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year award.

Smith is the fourth Northwestern student-athlete to receive the prestigious distinction, following the likes of her former teammate on the lacrosse team Hannah Nielsen in 2008 as well as two-sport athlete Jennifer Averill in 1987 and softball's Lisa Ishikawa in 1984. Smith joins Nielsen as the only two recipients in the 31-year history of the award to play a sport not sponsored by the Big Ten Conference.
