Brad Bertani Named Asst. AD for Compliance
Denison, Ohio and Capital Law School graduate has extensive compliance experience
COLUMBUS,
Ohio – The Ohio State University Department of Athletics has named Brad
Bertani to the position of assistant athletics director for compliance.
Bertani’s extensive experience includes working at four universities
and at the National Collegiate Athletic Association. “We
are very excited to have Brad join our compliance team,” Doug Archie,
Ohio State associate athletics director for compliance, said. “Brad
brings experience from the SEC and NCAA to our team. He has served as
the chair of the NCAA Interpretations Committee, NCAA Big Ten
Conference liaison and as the staff liaison to the NCAA Division I
Infractions Appeal Committee. I have known Brad personally and
professionally and look forward to working with him again.” Bertani,
42, comes to Ohio State from the University of Tennessee, where he
served as the associate athletics director for compliance since
2004. Bertani oversaw UT’s NCAA and Southeastern Conference
compliance program for all 20 men’s and women’s varsity sports.
He also served as the sports administrator for the men’s golf program.
In April 2006, Bertani was named one of the nine members serving on the
NCAA Division I Legislative Review and Interpretations Committee and in
2008 was named the Chairman of that committee.
Bertani
worked at Marshall University as associate athletics director for
compliance, from January 2002 until moving on to Tennessee. Prior to
his Marshall position he worked four years as a membership services
representative for the NCAA.
Bertani served as an
athletics compliance and academic coordinator at the University of
Detroit Mercy from 1994-97, and before that served as compliance intern
at Ohio State.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in
political science from Denison University in 1991 and played on the
football team for four years. He then completed a masters in
sports administration at Ohio University and his Juris Doctorate at
Capital University in 1994.
A native of Upper
Arlington, Ohio, Bertani is married to the former Gretchen Harris of
Grandview Heights. The couple has three children: daughters Lydia and
Lindsey and a son, Joey.
