Brad Bertani Named Asst. AD for Compliance

Denison, Ohio and Capital Law School graduate has extensive compliance experience

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Department of Athletics has named Brad Bertani to the position of assistant athletics director for compliance. Bertani’s extensive experience includes working at four universities and at the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

“We are very excited to have Brad join our compliance team,” Doug Archie, Ohio State associate athletics director for compliance, said. “Brad brings experience from the SEC and NCAA to our team. He has served as the chair of the NCAA Interpretations Committee, NCAA Big Ten Conference liaison and as the staff liaison to the NCAA Division I Infractions Appeal Committee. I have known Brad personally and professionally and look forward to working with him again.”

Bertani, 42, comes to Ohio State from the University of Tennessee, where he served as the associate athletics director for compliance since 2004.  Bertani oversaw UT’s NCAA and Southeastern Conference compliance program for all 20 men’s and women’s varsity sports.  He also served as the sports administrator for the men’s golf program. In April 2006, Bertani was named one of the nine members serving on the NCAA Division I Legislative Review and Interpretations Committee and in 2008 was named the Chairman of that committee.

Bertani worked at Marshall University as associate athletics director for compliance, from January 2002 until moving on to Tennessee. Prior to his Marshall position he worked four years as a membership services representative for the NCAA.

Bertani served as an athletics compliance and academic coordinator at the University of Detroit Mercy from 1994-97, and before that served as compliance intern at Ohio State.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Denison University in 1991 and played on the football team for four years.  He then completed a masters in sports administration at Ohio University and his Juris Doctorate at Capital University in 1994.

A native of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Bertani is married to the former Gretchen Harris of Grandview Heights. The couple has three children: daughters Lydia and Lindsey and a son, Joey.
