Northwestern Sets 2011-12 Men's Basketball Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. --  Dates, times and television designations have been set for the entire 2011-12 Northwestern men's basketball schedule.

The dates for Northwestern's nonconference schedule and its Big Ten games televised by the ESPN family of networks had been previously announced.

NU is set to have three nonconference games televised by Big Ten Network beginning with the Nov. 13 season- and home-opener against Texas-Pan American. The two other games prior to the start of conference play that are being broadcast on BTN are the Dec. 4 contest against Baylor and the Dec. 18 matchup with Eastern Illinois.

The Wildcats' exhibition game vs. Robert Morris (Ill.) as well four other nonconference home games are being streamed live on the Big Ten Digital Network on Wildcats All-Access. The platform previously known as BigTenNetwork.com has been combined with Wildcats All-Access with the games still being streamed in high definition.

Northwestern faces yet another challenging test to open Big Ten play this season as the first six conference games are all against teams that appeared in the NCAA tournament a year ago. League play opens Dec. 28 as the Wildcats travel to defending Big Ten champion Ohio State.

Following the conference home opener against Penn State on New Year's Day, Illinois comes to Welsh-Ryan Arena on Jan. 4. The 'Cats head to Michigan one week later before returning home to take on Michigan State Jan. 14 in a Saturday matinee.

NU's lone meeting with Wisconsin is on tap for Jan. 18 as the Wildcats travel to Madison. Northwestern remains on the road Jan. 22 as it heads to Minnesota for a Sunday afternoon contest.

Another Saturday afternoon contest is scheduled for Jan. 28 when the Wildcats host Purdue before NU plays new Big Ten member Nebraska for the only time during the 2011-12 campaign at home Feb. 2.

The regular-season series with Illinois comes to a close Feb. 5 in Champaign before Iowa makes the trip to Evanston four days later. A road swing through the state of Indiana is slated for the following week as Northwestern travels to Purdue Feb. 12 and Indiana Feb. 15.

Three of the Wildcats' next four games will be played at home as the Big Ten season winds down. The stretch opens with home games against Minnesota and Michigan on Feb. 18 and 21, respectively. Following a road game at Penn State Feb. 25, NU closes out its home regular season the way it opened the overall slate by facing Ohio State on Leap Year Day.

The Big Ten schedule concludes March 3 with Northwestern traveling to Iowa.

NU's one-plays for the 2011-12 season are Michigan State and Nebraska at home and Indiana and Wisconsin on the road.

Indianapolis' final year of a five-year run of hosting the Big Ten tournament runs from March 8-11.
