Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 6 Baylor
Januskova upsets No. 14 Nakic

Hawaii – The Penn State women’s tennis team (0-2, 0-0) put up a good
fight against the sixth-ranked Baylor Bears (1-0) but eventually lost,
5-2. Four different Nittany Lions picked up wins for Penn State.

96 Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) pulled out a resounding victory
against fourteenth-ranked Diana Nakic, 6-2, 6-3. Fernanda Perrotta
(Buenos Aires, Argentina) also picked up a singles point for the
Nittany Lions, defeating Doris Llamas in convincing fashion, 6-1, 6-1.
In
the singles second slot Carmen Sandor (Toronto, Canada) fell to Nina
Secerbegovic, 5-7, 1-6. Chelsea Utting (Peachtree City, Ga.) got off to
a good start, winning 7-5, but gave up the last two to fall Sona
Novakova, 1-6, 2-6. Marie-Frederique Bedard (Montreal, Canada) was
uphanded by Jordaan Sanford, 1-6, 1-6. In the number five singles
match, Nina Sertic (Zagrab, Croatia) won the first set, 6-4, but
eventually fell to Megan Horter in the last two, 3-6, 4-6.
In
doubles action, Sandor/Utting decisively upended the duo of Llamas of
Horter, 8-0. In the first doubles slot Januskova and Sertic lost to
Nakic/Novakova, 8-4. In the number two match Perrotta/Bedard were
defeated by Secerbegovic/Sanford, 8-4.
The
Nittany Lions return to Happy Valley for four straight home matches at
the Sarni Tennis Center. Penn State will host a doubleheader versus
UMBC and Lehigh on Sat., Jan. 21 starting at 11 a.m. The Nittany Lions
will face rival Pittsburgh at 1 p.m. on Sun., Jan. 29 and will open Big
Ten play Tues., Feb. 7 against Ohio State at 3 p.m.
