Named Lady Lion Director of Basketball Operations
Gelfand joins Penn State after five seasons at
Central Michigan
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA; — Ethan Gelfand has been selected as
the director of basketball operations for the Penn State Lady Lion
basketball team, it was announced by head coach Coquese Washington
today. Gelfand, who will take his post on July 5, comes to Penn State
after five seasons at Central Michigan in the similar role.
“I am thrilled to have Ethan join our staff,” Washington
said. “His experiences at both Central Michigan and Wake Forest
will prove to be invaluable to ourprogram as we continue our climb to
national prominence.”
Gelfand will be responsible for a variety of administrative duties,
including coordinating team travel and serving as the liaison for the
Lady Lion CagerClub. He will also oversee the Lady Lions' summer camps
and special projects, such as coaching clinics and alumni relation
initiatives. Additionally, Gelfand will supervise the student managers
and provide support for the team's community outreach efforts.
Gelfand joins the Lady Lions after five seasons as the director of
basketball operations at Central Michigan. While with the Chippewas, he
was responsible for travel coordination, practice and game day
management, community outreach and the ordering and distribution of
apparel and equipment. Additionally, he supervised the women’s
basketball studentpersonnel. Gelfand was also responsible for
scheduling CMU’s non-conference schedule.
Additionally, Gelfand served in the role of video coordinator where he
organized the team’s film exchange and prepared scouting reports
and other video projects for the women’s basketball staff. He
also served as the camp director for the Chippewas’ summer camp
programs.
Prior to his tenure at Central Michigan, Gelfand was a manager for the
Wake Forest men’s basketball team, including a stint as the head
manager in 2005. As the head manager, he oversaw a staff of eight
managers that assisted in logistics of practice and game operations.
A native of Chestnut Hill, Mass., Gelfand served as a Red Sox replay
ambassador for three summers. During his time at Wake Forest, he was
active in Lambda Pi Eta, the communications honor society, and Alpha
Sigma Phi fraternity. He served as the vice president and treasurer of
Alpha Sigma Phi at WFU.
Gelfand received his bachelor’s degree in communication from Wake
Forest University in 2006.
