Women’s Tennis Begins Fall Competition this Weekend
The Nittany Lions will compete in the Cissie Leary Invitational

Park, Pa. – The Penn State women’s tennis team kicks off the 2011
season at the 15th annual Cissie Leary Invitational starting
Friday. The tournament, which runs through Sunday, will be held
at the University of Pennsylvania’s Hamlin Tennis Center in
Philadelphia, Pa. The Nittany Lions are the lone Big Ten
team competing this weekend, as they will face a field of eight other
teams in both singles and doubles matches. This marks the first
time Penn State will compete in the Cissie Leary Invitational since the
2006-07 season. Other teams participating in the tournament
include Temple, Maryland, Columbia, Drexel, Delaware, Cornell, and
Fairfield, along with tournament host Pennsylvania. Penn
State will compete in two other tournaments during the fall season –
the Rice Invitational in Houston, Texas, Oct. 7th through Oct. 9th and
the Western Michigan Super Challenge in Kalamazoo, Mich., Nov. 4th
through Nov. 6th. In addition, players have the opportunity
to participate in the All-American Championships, ITA Regionals, and
National Indoors tournaments if they individually qualify.
