PURDUE WOMEN’S SOCCER WINS OVERTIME THRILLER AT MIAMI (OHIO), 4-3  

OXFORD, Ohio – After equalizing three times in regulation, Jordan Pawlik’s golden goal in the 102nd minute gave Purdue women’s soccer its first lead of the day as well as a 4-3 overtime win at Miami (Ohio) Sunday afternoon.

The Boilermakers (5-2-1) scored multiple goals for the seventh time in their first eight games of the season. With 26 goals this year, Purdue will enter Big Ten play next Sunday against Wisconsin just one goal shy of its season total from 2012.

The four goals Sunday were the Boilers’ most in a road game since also scoring four in an October 2005 win at Ohio State. Purdue posted its first overtime road win since winning at Nebraska in September 2012 on a golden goal from Taylor Niewoit, who assisted on Pawlik’s game-winner Sunday.

Pawlik scored twice Sunday for her third multi-goal game as a Boilermaker. She also assisted on Hadley Stuart’s equalizer in the 83rd minute that sent the game to overtime. Alex Hairston scored Purdue’s first equalizer in the fifth minute, finding the back of the net for the third straight game. The junior became the first Boiler to score in three straight games since Kellie Phillips did so in five straight in October 2005.

Pawlik connected on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute to tie the score at 2-2. Stuart was taken down by a Miami defender in the 18-yard box to setup the penalty kick opportunity. Pawlik improved to 2-for-2 on PKs this season. The senior golden goal’s was her third score of the season, making her the sixth Purdue player with three-plus goals this year. She moved from outside back to forward after leading goal scorer Maddy Williams left the game for good in the 28th minute. Williams has been slowed by an ankle injury as of late.

Stuart’s fifth goal of the season and 12th career was scored only 81 seconds after Miami (3-4) took a 3-2 lead in the 81st minute. Sunday’s game marked the third time this season Purdue has been involved in a game that featured seven-plus goals.

Senior Clara Kridler took over at goalkeeper for the Boilers to begin the second half. In her first action since Sept. 1 at Kansas, she made four second-half saves to help keep her team within striking distance. The Boilermakers dodged a bullet on two occasions in the second half when Miami’s Kayla Zakrzewski hit the crossbar twice (92nd and 97th minutes).

Pawlik scored with a lob shot into the far corner of the net from 15 yards out. Earlier, she setup Stuart’s equalizer with a goal line cross that led to a tap-in score. Hairston’s goal in the fifth minute was scored only two minutes and 16 seconds after Miami jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage. Williams setup Hairston’s fourth goal of the season and team-high 14th career.

The RedHawks took the lead with goals in the 37th and 81st minutes. Katy Dolesh scored Miami’s first and third goals of the day. Haley Walter accounted for the go-ahead score late in the first half.

Melissa Casella, Mollie Kuramoto, Mikayla Lasky, Kim Love and Stuart went the distance for the Boilermakers. Jordan Frick and Pawlik also logged 90-plus minutes in the extended affair. Makaela Nellams logged 66 minutes to lead the reserves, finishing out the game at outside back after coming on just after the midpoint of the first half. Niewoit played the entire second half and overtime.
