Purdue Adds Three Mid-Year Enrollees
The
Purdue football program welcomed in three early enrollees for the
spring semester. Offensive lineman Kirk Baron, quarterback David Blough
and defensive lineman Langston Newton are all enrolled in school and
will be eligible to participate in the upcoming spring practices.
Baron
joins the Boilermakers after graduating early from Marian High School
in Mishawaka, Ind. In 2013, he helped guide the Knights to a spot in
the Class 3A IHSAA Football State Tournament. His physicality and
strength helped him earn Lineman MVP honors at the Core 6 Showcase in
Chicago last January.
Blough comes to West
Lafayette after graduating early from Creekview High School in
Carrollton, Texas. During his senior season, Blough passed for over
1,500 yards and recorded 13 touchdown passes against merely two
interceptions. He exploded onto the national scene with a strong
performance at the Elite 11 Camp in Portland, Ore., last summer. As a
junior he threw for 1,700 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Newton,
who transferred to Purdue from Kentucky, originally signed with the
Wildcats out of Carmel High School in the spring of 2012. A first team
all-state selection as a senior, he helped lead Carmel to a 14-1 record
and the Class 5A state championship in 2011. He did not play in either
of his two seasons in Lexington. Newton is also an accomplished
thrower, winning the state title in the shot put and discus as a senior
in high school.
