Boilers Wrap Up Gladstein Invite
The
track and field teams wrapped up the Gladstein Invitational on Saturday
at Indiana University. The Boilermakers won seven more events on the
final day.
Raheem Mostert won a pair of events on Saturday
inside the Gladstein Fieldhouse. The junior ran a 6.78 second time to
win by 0.05 of a second over teammate Tyler Askew. Mostert also won the
200m dash after posting a time of 21.94 seconds.
Devynne
Charlton took second in the women's 60m dash after crossing the finish
line in 7.63 seconds. Kari Shoolbraid and BreAnna Smith took second and
third, respectively, in the women's 800m invitational, and were the top
two collegiate finishers. Shoolbraid posted a time of 2:09.58, while
Smith ran a 2:12.67. The women's 4x400m relay team ran well and won
over second place Ohio State. The Boilermakers ran a 3:45.49 to win by
0.64 of a second.
Dani Bunch and the Purdue throwers continued
to excel. Bunch threw 22.17m (72-08.75) in the weight throw to win by
seven feet, four inches over the second place finisher. Bunch was the
winner of the shot put with a Purdue school record on Friday. On the
men's side, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi threw an all-time personal record in
the shot put. He won the event with a throw of 19.17m (62-10.75). The
distance won the event by nearly three feet. It also ranks as the
second-best throw in Purdue history, behind only Nedzad Mulabegovic
whose record is 19.94m (65-05.00).
The Boilermaker men took two
of the top three spots in the 60m hurdles. Brandon Winters won with a
time of 7.89 seconds. Andre' Peart finished third after finishing in
8.10 seconds. The men's 4x400m team completed the Boilermaker sweep of
the event. Andrew Kendrick, Okokhare Ikpefan, Mario Cosey and Peart ran
a time of 3:13.92 to win by more than half a second.
