Boilermakers In Tenth Place After Day One of Puerto Rico Classic
The
Purdue men's golf team fired a 10-over par 298 to sit in a 10th-place
tie after round one of the highly-competitive Puerto Rico Classic held
at the Rio Mar Resort & Spa's River Course.
The event features three teams ranked in the nation's top 10 and nine more ranked between Nos. 11 and 70.
Stuart
Macdonald led the Boilermakers with an even-par 72, good for an
18th-place tie. Starting on hole No. 17, Macdonald bogeyed two of his
first three holes to fall to 2-over par. He then parred eight straight
holes before a birdie on hole No. 10 improved him to 1-over par. He
eagled the par-4 13th hole to jump to 1-under par, before a
bogey-birdie-bogey finish dropped him to even par on his round.
Ben-Marvin
Egel shot a 2-over par 74 to finish round one tied for 30th. He bogeyed
his first hole (No. 16) and his 13th hole (No. 10) while recording 16
pars to finish his round at 2-over par.
Enzo Perez recorded a
3-over par 75 to place 39th after 18 holes. Perez was even-par through
six holes, before bogeying three of the final 12 holes to finish with
an opening-round 75.
Austin Eoff rounded out Purdue's scoring
with a 5-over par 77. Eoff could never get it going in round one,
sitting at 6-over par after 13 holes before a late birdie got him to
5-over par for his round.
Freshman Brian Carlson scored a 6-over par 78 as Purdue's fifth scorer.
Georgia
leads the tournament with an 8-under par score of 280. Alabama is
second at 3-under par 285, while Virginia Tech is third at 1-under par
287. Clemson is fourth at even-par 288.
