#16 PURDUE BASEBALL POSTS ANOTHER ONE-SIDE WIN VERSUS ILLINOIS-CHICAGO  

CHICAGO – No. 16 Purdue baseball scored in each of the first four innings, including consecutive four-run frames to begin the game, rolling to its ninth straight win, 12-2, at Illinois-Chicago Tuesday evening.

The Boilermakers (29-5) won for the 13th time in their last 14 games and recorded their 13th consecutive true midweek victory dating back to March 2011. Purdue held the opposition without a run until at least the ninth inning for the third time in the last four games.

The Boilermakers scored nine of their 12 runs with two outs thanks in part to eight two-out hits. Purdue sent 10 men to the plate in the first inning, all four runs scoring with two outs. Illinois-Chicago (14-20) starter Matt Salemi (0-4) issued four walks and hit two batters to help make the big inning possible.

David Miller singled in each of his first three at-bats, posting his second career four-RBI game. He delivered a two-out, two-run single in each of the first two innings. Miller has now recorded 14 of his 19 RBI this year with two outs.

Cameron Perkins delivered a pair of RBI doubles. Eric Charles recorded three hits, scoring each of the four times he worked his way aboard.

Robert Ramer (4-0) worked four innings of two-hit ball, helping Purdue improve to 13-1 in his 14 career starts. He improved his career record to 11-0. Ramer retired 10 consecutive batters from the first through fourth innings beginning with a 6-4-3 double play. Calvin Gunter, Jack DeAno and Pat Gannon put together scoreless relief appearances.

Six consecutive Purdue hitters reached base safely with two outs in the first inning. Angelo Cianfrocco was hit by a pitch to force in the first run of the game. Sean McHugh followed with a bases-loaded walk. Miller’s two-run single up the middle was the Boilers’ first hit of the game.

The first four Purdue hitters of the second inning reached base safely. Barrett Serrato singled home Charles for the first run. Perkins helped keep the inning alive when he took out the legs of the UIC catcher with a slide into home, preventing a potential 5-2-3 double play. Miller followed with a bloop single down the left field. The ball got by the left fielder, clearing the bases.

Back-to-back hits from Charles and Perkins led to runs in the third and sixth innings. The two players recorded carbon copy doubles down the third base line in the third.

In the fourth inning, Stephen Talbott picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly to center field after a well-executed hit and run put runners on the corners with one out. With McHugh in motion, Miller bounced the ball through the vacated right side for his third hit of the night.

Bennett Oliver knocked in Purdue’s final run of the night with a two-out single up the middle in the eighth inning.

The Boilermakers have outscored UIC 41-6 in their last three meetings. Purdue has never trailed at any point of those three games while scoring four or more runs in an inning seven times.
