Husker Men Win Mark Colligan Memorial
Lincoln,
Neb. - The Nebraska Track and Field team honored former assistant coach
Mark Colligan as the Huskers competed in the first Mark Colligan
Memorial at the Devaney Center Indoor Track on Saturday afternoon.
The
Husker men finished first in the team rankings with 152.50 total
points, while Illinois was second with 143.50 points. The Husker women
came in third (123.50), as Michigan was first (161.50) and Illinois was
second (133).
Chris Phipps notched another title in the long
jump on Saturday, posting a mark of 24-1 1/2 (7.35). Seth Wiedel came
in second after recording a jump of 23-11 1/2 (7.30). Kara Mostoller
finished third for the women with a jump of 18-1 3/4 (5.53) and Ellie
Ewere came in fifth after notching a mark of 17-4 (5.28).
Carlos
Hernandez finished first in the men’s high jump, posting a leap of 6-10
1/4 (2.09). Travis Englund followed close behind with a second-place
finish on a personal-best-tying jump of 6-8 1/4 (2.04). On the women’s
side Jillanna Scanlan came in second with a jump of 5-8 (1.73).
In
the women’s shot put, Annie Jackson recorded a second-place finish with
a mark of 50-2 (15.29). Carlie Pinkelman came in fifth with a
personal-best throw of 48-10 1/4 (14.89), while Veronica Grizzle came
in sixth (46-11 3/4) and Morgan Wilken took seventh (45-1 1/2).
Luke
Pinkelman and Chad Wright finished at the top of the men’s shot put
standings. Pinkelman came in first with a throw of 63-8 1/4 (19.41),
marking his second-straight NCAA automatic-qualifying performance.
Wright finished in second with a mark of 58-1 (17.70).
Anna
Weigandt finished second in the women’s triple jump behind a
personal-best leap of 40-9 1/2 (12.43). Ellie Ewere finished fifth,
notching a leap of 38-7 3/4 (11.78). Patrick Raedler finished first in
the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 50-0 1/2 (15.25).
Carter
Wasem left his mark in the men’s weight throw with a personal best mark
of 61-7 3/4 (18.79) to finish in third-place. Matt Giesselmann
took seventh behind a personal-best throw of 55-9 (16.99). On the
women’s side, Victoria Zimmerman finished in second-place with a throw
of 59-1 1/2 (18.02). Jade Siegel (55-7 3/4), Taylor Jensen (55-3) and
Mary Morales (52-9 1/4) finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
Cami
Jiskra finished fourth in the women’s pole vault with a vault of 12-8
3/4 (3.88). Breanna Bussel tied her personal best of 12-8 3/4 (3.88),
while Maggie Maher also notched a mark of 12-8 3/4 and Lauren Welch
tied her personal-best with a vault of 11-9 (3.58). Nate Polacek
finished first in the men’s pole vault, with a mark of 17-7 3/4 (5.38).
Bjorn Barrefors took second with a performance-best-tying vault of 16-2
(4.93).
Jarren Heng earned the Huskers their first event victory
of the day with a personal-best performance in the men’s 5,000 meters.
Heng posted a time of 14:29.71 to come in first, passing his previous
personal best of 17:14.69. Martina Barinova finished fourth in the
women’s 5,000 meters with a time of 17:04.37.
Jessica Furlan
recorded a personal-best time of 4:42.88 in the women’s mile run,
finishing fourth behind a Michigan sweep in the top three spots. On the
men’s side Brett Grieb recorded a personal-best mark of 4:23.41 as he
finished sixth in the mile.
In the women’s 60-meter hurdles,
Jordan Stiens finished fourth with a personal-best time of 8.74. Anne
Martin also notched a personal best after recording a mark of 9.04.
Miles Ukaoma narrowly missed setting a personal best in the men’s
60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 7.92 to finish second.
Mara
Weekes posted a top finish in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best
time of 7.46 to take top honors. Breunna McCarty finished fourth behind
a personal-best time of 7.72, continuing an impressive start to her
freshman campaign. Tim Thompson came in fifth in the men’s 60-meter
dash with a time of 6.85.
Jodi-Rae Blackwood competed in the
400-meter dash for the first time in 2012. In doing so, the sophomore
from St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, finished second and notched a
personal-best mark of 47.92. Mila Andric finished fifth in the women’s
400-meter dash with a time of 56.70.
Weekes continued an
impressive showing at the Mark Colligan Memorial with a second-place
finish in the women’s 200 meters. She recorded a personal-best time of
24.14, beating her previous mark of 24.21. McCarty finished with a time
of 26.00, while Stiens notched a mark of 26.06 and Martin came in with
a personal-best of 26.13. In the men’s 200 meters Ricco Hall finished
third with a personal-best 21.33, while Tim Thompson came in fourth
after notching a personal best of 21.53 and Dexter McKenzie came sixth
with a personal-best time of 21.64.
Ashley Miller captured the
women’s 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:08.26. She led the
Huskers as Blaire Dinsdale followed her lead for fourth-place with a
time of 2:11.08. On the men’s side, Alney Tobias finished fourth with a
time of 1:53.77 and Sidney Madlock came in sixth with a personal-best
mark of 1:55.62.
The women’s 4x400 meter relay team took third
with a time of 3:50.20, behind the efforts of Andric, Grooters, Blaire
Dinsdale and Weekes. The 4x400 meter relay team of Blackwood, Ukaoma,
London Hawk and Hall narrowly missed taking event crown with a
second-place finish on a time of 3:12.28.
