Wilken Claims Discus Title at Drake Relays

 

Des Moines, Iowa- The Nebraska track and field team returned to Drake Stadium on Friday for the second day of competition at the Drake Relays. Morgan Wilken led the Huskers as she notched the team’s first event title of the weekend in the women’s discus.  
 
Wilken won the women’s discus with a personal-best throw of 183-7 (55.95), bettering her previous best of 175-3 (53.42). In the other throws events, Annie Jackson led the Husker women in the shot put with a mark of 50-5 1/2 (15.38). Carlie Pinkelman followed with a personal-best throw of 50-2 (15.29). Luke Pinkelman finished third in the men’s shot put, recording a throw of 61-2 (18.64).
 
Marusa Cernjul finished with a jump of 5-7 (1.70) in the high jump, as Jillanna Scanlan posted a jump of 5-5 (1.65). Cami Jiskra recorded a top-10 finish in the women’s pole vault, notching a mark of 12-7 1/2 (3.85). Nate Polacek finished eighth on the men’s side with a vault of 16-4 3/4 (5.00).
 
The women’s distance medley relay team of Jessica Furlan, Ellie Grooters, Erica Hamik and Ashley Miller finished second with a time of 11:19.37. The women’s 4x800 meter relay team of Blaire Dinsdale, Brooke Dinsdale, Ellen Dougherty and Miller took third with a time of 8:39.33. The men’s 4x800 meter relay team of Tommy Brinn, Connor Gibson, London Hawk and Sidney Madlock posted a time of 7:34.13, while the women’s 4x400 meter relay team of Mila Andric, Mara Weekes, Rachel Butler and Grooters narrowly missed qualifying for tomorrow’s finals, recording a season-best time of 3:41.15.
