Huskers Record Eight Event Titles at K.T. Woodman Classic
Wichita,
Kan.- The Nebraska track and field team wrapped up competition at the
K.T. Woodman Classic on Saturday on the campus of Wichita State
University. The Huskers came away with eight event titles on the day,
including sweeps in the pole vault and shot put.
Breanna
Bussel also took home her first event title of the outdoor season,
finishing first in the pole vault. Bussel notched a personal-best vault
of 13-7 1/4 (4.15). Maggie Maher tied for second in the event with a
vault of 12-5 1/2 (3.80), also a personal best mark. Cami Jiskra also
finished with a vault of 12-5 1/2 (3.80), as Lauren Welch came in fifth
with a pole vault of 11-11 3/4 (3.65).
Nebraska went on to sweep
the pole vault titles as Nate Polacek came in first on the men’s side
with a personal-best vault of 17-7 3/4 (5.38). Craig Driver finished
fourth with a personal-best mark of 16-6 3/4 (5.05).
The Huskers
swept the top three spots in the women’s shot put as Annie Jackson won
the event with a season-best throw of 51-00 (15.54). Veronica Grizzle
finished second with a season-best throw of 50-02 3/4 (15.31) and
Carlie Pinkelman took third with a mark of 48-8 1/4 (14.84).
Luke
Pinkleman claimed the men’s shot put title with a throw of 63-04
(19.30), setting a new personal-best mark and completing the sweep for
the Huskers. He also finished second in the men’s discus with a mark of
167-05 (51.03). Carter Wasem posted a second-place finish in the men’s
hammer throw, after finishing with a mark of 185-00 (56.39).
Morgan
Wilken tabbed another victory in the discus as she finished first with
a personal-best throw of 175-03 (53.42). Jackson came in sixth,
finishing with a throw of 152-00 (46.33). Jade Siegel notched a
second-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 184-09 (56.32)
and Mary Morales was fourth with a personal-best throw of 172-02
(52.47).
Marusa Cernjul tabbed her first event title of the
outdoor season, recording a leap of 5-8 (1.73) in the high jump.
Jillanna Scanlan finished in sixth-place with a jump of 5-4 1/4 (1.63).
Travis Englund finished fourth in the men’s high jump with a leap of
6-6 3/4 (2.00), tying his season-best mark. Devandrew Johnson came in
ninth after posting a mark of 6-2 3/4 (1.90).
Elle Ewere
finished third in the women’s long jump with a leap of 18-5 1/4 (5.62).
She also came in fourth in the triple jump after recording a jump of
39-7 3/4 (12.08). Rachel Butler finished eighth in the triple jump with
a mark of 37-11 1/4 (11.56).
Scott Jorgenson finished second in
the men’s long jump with a leap of 24-04 1/2 (7.43). Englund followed
his with a third-place finish behind a jump of 24-00 3/4 (7.33). He
went on to come in second in the triple jump with a personal-best mark
of 48-2 1/2 (14.69). Rashad Moxey finished fourth with a leap of 47-06
1/2 (14.49) and Corey Winston finished fifth behind a jump of 47-05 1/4
(14.46).
Mara Weekes posted a second-place finish in the 400
meters, recording a time of 57.60. Rachel Butler followed her lead with
a sixth-place finish and a time of 1:00.15, while Ellen Dougherty
posted a time of 1:00.60 for ninth and Jelena Andjelkovic tallied a
time of 1:01.63 for 11th. Breunna McCarty finished in a tie for 10th in
the women’s 100 meters with a time of 12.24. Tim Thompson took eighth
in the men’s 200 meters, recording a time of 21.51. In addition, Ricco
Hall posted a 10th-place finish in the 400 meters (49.08) and Tommy
Brinn finished 12th (49.32).
Blaire Dinsdale took home the event
title in the women’s 800 meters, notching a time of 2:13.14. Erica
Hamik finished third with a time of 2:16.81, while Brooke Dinsdale
posted a time of 2:21.68. On the men’s side, Connor Gibson finished
fifth with a time of 1:56.53.
Ellie Grooters notched a second-place finish in the 400 meter hurdles, recording a time of 1:02.21.
The
women’s 4x400 meter relay team of Butler, Grooters, Monique Lewis and
Weekes finished first as the team posted a time of 3:50.58. The men’s
4x400 meter relay team of Dani Dapo, Sidney Madlock, Brinn and London
Hawk finished fifth with a time of 3:27.49.
The Huskers return to action next weekend with the Kansas Relays in Lawrence, Kan.
