Husker Throwers Power NU at Sun Angel Classic
Tempe,
Ariz. – The Nebraska track and field team continued its streak on the
road with competition at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz., over
the weekend. The Huskers pulled in three titles on the day, all of
which came in the throws events.
Morgan Wilken shined for the
Huskers in the discus, earning the event title with a personal-best
throw of 172-09. Wilken’s previous personal best was 172-3, set last
year.
Chad Wright earned his second event title of the season
with a personal-best throw of 198-05 (60.48) in the men’s discus
premier. Tyler Hitchler finished right behind Wright with a throw of
193-02 (58.88) for second-place.
In the women’s shot put,
Veronica Grizzle finished with the event crown, recording a
personal-best throw of 53-5 3/4 (16.30). Carlie Pinkelman also tallied
a personal-best mark with a throw of 49-1 3/4 (14.98) for
fourth-place. Annie Jackson finished ninth in the premier
section, notching a throw of 49-3 1/2 (15.02). Luke Pinkelman finished
third in the men’s shot put premier section, posting a throw of 61-2
(18.64). Wright finished with a shot put of 54-9 1/2 (16.70) and
Hitchler posted a throw of 53-10 1/2.
Victoria Zimmerman
finished sixth in the women’s hammer throw premier. Zimmerman tabbed a
season-best throw of 192-02 (58.57) to lead Nebraska. Jade Siegel
finished eighth with a throw of 185-07 (56.57).
Carter Wasem
came in fifth in the men’s hammer throw, notching a mark of 184-11
(56.36). Austin Braman finished third in the men’s javelin after
posting a throw of 215-04 (65.64).
Marusa Cernjul notched a
fourth-place finish in the women’s high jump, recording a season-best
leap of 5-8 3/4 (1.75). Jillanna Scanlan posted a season-best jump of
5-7 (1.70) for seventh place. On the men’s side, Carlos Hernandez came
in fourth with a mark of 6-8 3/4 (2.05). Travis Englund and Devandrew
Johnson both finished with leaps of 6-6 3/4 (2.00), marking a season
best for Englund and a personal best for Johnson.
Mara Griva
finished third in the women’s long jump, posting a leap of 19-8 3/4
(6.01), while Kara Mostoller finished fifth after recording a jump of
18-10 3/4 (5.76). Patrick Raedler posted a second-place finish on the
men’s side, finishing with a jump of 25-2 (7.67). Bobby Carter followed
him with a leap of 24-2 1/4 (7.37). Anna Weigandt finished third in the
women’s triple jump, with a leap of 40-5 (12.32), and Ellie Ewere came
in fourth with a jump of 39-10 (12.14), while Rachel Butler notched a
jump of 38-6 1/4 (11.74). Phipps finished second in the triple jump
with a personal-best leap of 53-1 1/2 (16.19).
Cami Jiskra led
the women pole vaulters with a mark of 12-7 1/2 (3.85). Maggie Maher
notched a vault of 12-1 1/2 (3.70). Nate Polacek finished third in the
men’s pole vault, tallying a vault of 17-1 (5.21).
In the 100
meter dash premier section, Mara Weekes came in third with a time of
11.69. Tim Thompson finished 10th in the men’s 100 meter dash premier,
recording a time of 10.49. Breunna McCarty and Greta Kerekes finished
fifth and sixth, respectively, in the women’s 100 meters. McCarty
recorded a time of 12.17, while Kerekes finished with a mark of 12.19.
On the men’s side, Bjorn Barrefors finished with a time of 11.30, while
Teran Walford posted a personal-best of 11.41.
Dexter McKenzie
finished fifth in the men’s 200 meters, notching a personal-best mark
of 21.37. In the women’s race, Monique Lewis recorded a time of 25.07,
while Breunna McCarty posted a time of 25.67.
Ashley Miller
posted a fourth-place finish in the women’s 800 meters premier section,
recording a personal-best time of 2:03.33. Tommy Brinn finished fourth
in the men’s 800 meters premier, notching a season-best time of 1:49.17.
Katie
White tabbed a fourth-place finish in the women’s 5,000 meters,
recording a personal-best time of 17:01.19. Trevor Vidlak notched a
time of 14:14.16, finishing in third-place, and Peter Falcon posted a
mark of 14:59.71. In the men’s 3,000 steeplechase, Jarren Heng used a
personal-best time of 9:03.08 to finish second.
Mila Andric
finished fourth in the women’s 100 meter hurdles, posting a season-best
time of 13.96. Jordan Stiens finished with a season-best time of 14.32.
Miles Ukaoma came in seventh in the men’s 110 meter hurdles, posting a
time of 14.41.
Andric went on to finish ninth in the women’s 400
meter hurdles, posting a season-best time of 59.63. Ellie Grooters
notched a time of 1:01.61, while Rachel Butler posted a mark of
1:03.35.
The women’s 4x100 meter relay team of Kerekes,
Lewis, McCarty and Weekes finished third with a mark of 46.47, while
the men’s 4x100 meter relay team of Carter, Phipps, Thompson and
McKenzie posted a time of 40.64.The women’s 4x400 meter relay team of
Andric, Butler, Grootres and Weekes tabbed a time of 3:42.98 to finish
third. The men’s 4x400 team of Ukaoma, McKenzie, Blackwood and Brinn
tallied a time of 3:23.30 for eighth place.
The Huskers hit the road again next weekend for the K.T. Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kan.
