Distance Runners Shine at Iowa State Classic
Ames,
Iowa- The Nebraska track and field team completed competition at the
Iowa State Classic Saturday afternoon in Ames, Iowa. The Huskers’ were
led by distance runners Ashley Miller and Jessica Furlan, who both took
home event titles.
Miller kicked-off the day with a first-place
finish in the women’s 3,000 meters as she recorded a time of 9:26.26 to
take the event title. She currently holds the top Husker time in the
800 meters, mile run and 3,000 meters. Furlan followed Miller’s lead,
finishing first in the women’s mile. She recorded a mark of 4:45.76 to
beat out the field of 20.
In other races, Tommy Brinn recorded a
mark of 1:51.80 to take 10th in the men’s 800 meters, while Blaire
Dinsdale led the women with a fifth-place finish in the women’s 800
meters on a season-best time of 2:10.73. Brooke Dinsdale finished 10th,
with a mark of 2:12.98, while Erica Hamik was 11th, recording a
season-best mark of 2:13.91. Ellen Dougherty went on to post a time of
1:27.43 in the women’s 800 yard run.
Tim Thompson finished
eighth in the men’s 60 meter dash, posting a time of 6.92. Thompson
also competed in the men’s 200 meters, finishing fourth with a time of
21.89.
Miles Ukaoma finished second in the men’s 60
meter hurdles with a time of 8.02. Mila Andric competed in the women’s
60 meter hurdle finals, recording a time of 8.92.
Jarren
Heng represented Nebraska in the men’s 5,000 meters as he finished
ninth with a personal-best time of 14:23.63. Martina Barinova led the
women in the 5,000 meters with an eight-place finish on a personal-best
time of 16:42.99, while Katie White posted a time of 17:02.11.
The
Nebraska men’s 4x400 relay team of Jodi-Rae Blackwood, Dexter McKenzie,
Miles Ukaoma and Ricco Hall finished second with a season-best time of
3:08.88 behind Mississippi State. The women’s 4x400 relay team of Mila
Andric, Mara Weekes, Blaire Dinsdale and Ellie Grooters took ninth
behind a season-best time of 3:44.93.
Jillanna Scanlan led the
Huskers in the high jump with a second-place finish after posting a
mark of 5-8 1/2 (1.74), tying her personal best, and Marusa Cernjul
finished fourth with a jump of 5-6 1/2 (1.69). Carlos Hernandez
finished the men’s high jump with a mark of 6-6 1/4 (1.99). Kara
Mostoller represented the Huskers in the women’s long jump, finishing
third on a personal-best leap of 18-9 1/4 (5.72).
Nebraska
returns home next weekend as the Huskers host the Nebraska Tune-Up on
Friday, Feb. 17 at the Devaney Center Indoor Track.
