First Varsity Eight Earns Big Ten Boat of the Week

ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's rowing (No. 2
CRCA/USRowing Coaches) first varsity eight boat was named the Big Ten
Boat of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday (April
4). Michigan's 1V8 boat defeated two ranked opponents last weekend (No.
9 Yale and No. 12 Michigan State) in a weekend sweep on Saturday (March
31) in Columbus, Ohio. This marks the first Big Ten Boat of the Week
award for Michigan since April 26, 2011, when its second varsity eight
boat won the honor.
Michigan's first varsity eight squad opened
the event with a 12-second win over Michigan State (6:18.10 to 6:30.69)
and followed that up with a 12-second victory over Yale in the
afternoon (6:16.7 to 6:28.92). The Wolverine 1V8 crew is unbeaten in
four races this season.
The lineup for the Michigan first
varsity eight boat consisted of: Colleen Macke (Coxswain), Melisa
Ongun, Julia Darnton, Jessica Eiffert, Bryna Oleshansky, Felice
Mueller, Emily Eiffert, Lindsey Healy and Shannon Stief.

returns to action on Saturday (April 7), when the team travels to Iowa
City, Iowa, for races vs. Iowa and Louisville. Racing starts at 9 a.m.
CDT. The Wolverines hold their only home event of the season the
following Saturday (April 14) when Oregon State, Oklahoma and Tennessee
travel to Belleville Lake.
