TERPS WRAP UP FIRST WEEK OF FALL CAMP

The Maryland football team wrapped up its first full week of training camp on Wednesday afternoon. It marked the seventh preseason practice and was the first open to the media.

Second-year Head Coach DJ Durkin has been pleased with his team's effort and attention to detail through the first portion of camp.

"I've been very pleased with our guys with how they've handled practice and our tempo," said Durkin. "Our older guys have a real good understanding of what we want. There's been good leadership. The young guys we've brought in are doing a nice job of learning. They're coming along and really competing. There obviously is a long way to go, it's only practice seven, but I've been very pleased so far."

The Terps had a busy first week of camp, reporting on August 2 and jumping right into meetings and practice. The team practiced in pads for the first time on Sunday, welcomed the Big Ten Network Bus Tour to Cole Field House for a practice on Monday and enjoyed Tuesday off before Wednesday's open media practice.

Going into year two with Durkin at the helm, the players are spending less time getting acclimated to the system and what to expect from the coaches. That has led to increased productivity during practices.

"I like the mentality of our team and the way we approach practice," explained Durkin. "I like how our guys have approached the walkthrough's, the meetings and practice. It's been good. It's been a joy to coach. You can actually just focus on coaching and getting better and know that they're bringing a great attitude and work ethic every day."

The Terps will hold their first scrimmage on Saturday. Maryland fans will have a chance to watch practice on Saturday, August 19.
