Preseason Honors Continue for Hawkeye Football

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The 2011 Iowa Hawkeye football team continues to garner preseason media
attention. Lindy’s 2011 Big Ten Football magazine, on newsstands now, named cornerback Shaun
Prater to its preseason All-America team. Prater, offensive lineman Riley Reiff and linebacker
James Morris were named to Lindy’s Preseason All-Big Ten team.

In addition, senior defensive linemen Broderick Binns and Mike Daniels were named to the
inaugural Pony Express Award Watch List. The award will be given to two- or three-player tandems
whose work ethic, desire, on-and off-field leadership and playmaking ability best fuel their team.
The award will be announced at the conclusion of the 2011 season.

Prater, an Omaha native, was named second team All-American and first team All-Big Ten. Last
week, he was named to Phil Steele’s preseason All-Big Ten first team. The junior was named first
team All-Big Ten by league coaches and media a year ago. Prater (5-11, 180) started all 12 games
he played at cornerback and ranked second in the Big Ten in interceptions (.33) behind teammate
Brett Greenwood.

Reiff, a 6-6, 300-pounder from Parkston, S.D., was named to the first team offense. Last week, the
junior was named third team All-American by Phil Steele and was named to the prestigious Playboy
magazine preseason All-American team. Reiff became the 17th Iowa player ever named to the
Playboy team and the sixth Kirk Ferentz coached Hawkeye to make the list. Reiff, one of five
offensive linemen named to the Playboy team, has started 21 consecutive games. In 2009, he was
named third team Freshman All-America by CollegeFootballNews.com and was named to the first
team Big Ten All-Freshman team by the Sporting News. Reiff garnered second team All-Big Ten
honors in 2010.

Morris, a 6-2, 215-pounder from Solon, Iowa, was named to the second team defense. He saw
action in all 13 games in 2010 and made six starts at middle linebacker. The sophomore was
named first team freshman All-American by CollegeFootballNews.com, third team freshman All-
American by Phil Steele’s College Football, and Big Ten Conference All-Freshman by Rivals.com
during his rookie campaign. Morris ranked fourth on the team with 70 tackles.

Binns, a 6-2, 261-pounder senior from St. Paul, Minn., saw action in 12 games a year ago. He
made five starts at defensive end. Binns earned honorable mention all-conference honors in 2009.
He started all 13 games at defensive end that year, tallying six sacks.

Daniels, a senior who hails from Blackwood, N.J., was named honorable mention All-Big Ten by
league coaches and media in 2010. He played in all 13 contests a year ago and made eight starts
at defensive tackle. The 6-1, 275-pounder recorded 11 tackles for loss and four sacks.
Previously, 10 Hawkeyes earned preseason honors. Reiff and wide receiver Marvin McNutt, Jr.,
were both named to Phil Steele’s preseason All-America team. Reiff was named to the third team
offense and McNutt, Jr. to the fourth team offense. The duo, in addition to Prater, was also named
to Steele’s preseason All-Big Ten first team.

Seven other Hawkeyes were named to Steele’s preseason All-Big Ten team. Binns, Morris and
junior safety Micah Hyde were all named to the second team defense. Two sophomores, running
back Marcus Coker and offensive lineman Nolan MacMillan, were named to the third team
offense. Additionally, Daniels was named to the third team defense and senior linebacker Tyler
Nielsen was named to the fourth team defense.

The Hawkeyes open the regular season Saturday, Sept. 3 against Tennessee Tech in Kinnick
Stadium.

Kickoff time is scheduled for 11 a.m. on the BTN.
